If you ever visit the Cote d’Azur, don’t make Roquebrune-Cap-Martin your last stop eastbound. There’s a lesser known little town a few miles further down, just before you cross into Italy, that beats its glamorous neighbours in charm and ambiance: Menton. It boasts a microclimate making it the warmest nook of the entire French Riviera with 316 days of sunshine a year. Nestled in the embrace of a crescent moon of mountains, it keeps mistral winds at bay and shuts out the cold. Menton’s balmy climate makes its lush gardens and fruit trees flourish almost all year round. It’s nicknamed, not surprisingly, la “perle de la France”.
France’s pearl shone particularly bright when observed from a little distance. From the Quai Impératrice Eugénie in the old harbour, we had a dazzling view of Menton’s beautiful bay with its houses in an array of warm tints spilling down the hillside to the sea and its palm trees in the foreground swaying gently in the same soft breeze that also made my dress billow. The view reminded me of pictures I’ve seen of Cinque Terre in Italy (sadly I haven’t been there yet), but Menton is a lot less touristy.
I couldn’t resist the temptation to add some more shades to that rainbow of colours and wore a flowy Asos chiffon dress with bright print, wrap bust and strategically cut out sides: the perfect dress to wear to any wedding or garden party. I paired it with my Asos mules (previously worn here), my New Look coral saddle bag (which I own in four different colours: see this instagram), my oversized Missguided hat and a wooden bracelet in the same tint of green as the leaves on my dress.
Standing on the pier and looking at so much beauty, I oddly felt a hint of sadness. Why, you might ask. Perhaps it was the bitter taste of realising that I’d never be able to twirl this dress in such flawlessly matching, ethereal surroundings again.

This shoot creates a prototype of complementarity. Appearing on the Quai Impératrice Eugénie you enhance the exceptional qualities of beautiful Menton. Menton, as a reward, emphasizes the colourful beauty of your dress. Many years ago I walked on that same Quai, admired picturesque Menton and for one reason or another thought I missed a je ne savais quoi. Now I know what it was. Thank you, Bold Bliss, for bringing about a prolific synergy.

Such beautiful shots. I love learning about the lesser known places in Europe to visit. Totally can relate with you on the last line…sometimes when things are so beautiful it’s almost sad because the moment is only temporary. Good thing we have photos to remember :)
Thank you for your lovely comment, Lyana! I agree: leaving places like this makes you a little sad, but browsing through all the pictures makes your heart swell again…
