If you ever visit Seville, try this: wake up early on a bright day and walk by the Plaza de España (a colourful corner of which I already revealed in my June 26 blog post). Admire the five hundred shades of grey of the arched bridges shrouded in darkness, discover the lazy boats sleeping in the canal, and allow evocations of a tourist-free Venice to pop up in your mind. The gondoliers and other extras are still in bed. The place is all yours. Now watch the sun slowly lighten up the vast, empty square, admire the sky’s metamorphosis from indigo to bright blue, cherish the parapet’s multi-coloured patterns and notice how gentle gusts of wind make your skirt dance.
In order to let the wind perform its magic, wear a long, light and breezy skirt. I wore a plaited, semi-sheer piece and paired it with my favourite (also worn here and here) blush pink top. The length of the top creates the same kind of low waist that first caught my attention in the ball dresses of Sue Wong (see this one for instance). The only thing that kept a love-struck me from buying it, was the sobering insight that I don’t go to Viennese balls every month (or, for that matter, every year). However, in this outfit I achieved the same effect of a (more casual) drop waist by pairing a simple, long, flowy skirt with a top that reaches to the hips.
As I thought my outfit could use some additional colour, I wore a multi-coloured scarf as a headband (somewhat like this or this). Sorry that I forgot to shoot a close-up of it (hadn’t had my morning coffee yet, you see). Never mind – I’ll wear it in another post someday… Maybe sometime in Italy’s Venice, on the Rialto bridge, amidst a crowd of noisy tourists?
