Seville is a city brimming with restaurants. There’s nothing like sipping a sangria and enjoying a tasty meal on a warm evening on one of Seville’s many terraces. In my view, getting to know a city’s culture implies a plunge into the food scene as well. Quite ironically, none of the food we’ve had in Seville was really very Spanish – I guess the explanation lies in the fact that Seville was last on our Andalusian route and we had already suffered an overdose of tapas in Cordoba and Granada (including a lot of fried food). By the time we arrived in Seville, we were longing for some different cuisines.

We alternated long and active days of exploring Seville’s sights (see this post for a photo diary) with quite a few restaurant breaks, usually selected on the basis of TripAdvisor ranking and proximity to our hungry selves. However, as only the best is good enough for my highly esteemed readers, only four places made it to my personal list of favourites.

Roll of drums… Where to eat in Seville? Here’s the verdict.

(1) Best pasta: Osteria L’Oca Giuliva (Website, TripAdvisor)

This restaurant is ranked by TripAdvisor as the best Italian in Seville and I can only confirm that the food is superb. The pasta was homemade and cooked to perfection. I recommend trying the spaghetti with clams (vongole), the tagliatelli with truffle, and the stuffed pasta with gorgonzola, pear and walnuts: it’s difficult to say which one is more delicious. We didn’t try the tiramisu as we were completely full after our meals but if I’m ever in Seville again, I’m determined (being a Tiramisu aficionada) to go give it a shot: TripAdvisor reviewers say it’s outstanding as well. We did get a little sweet treat however as the waiter surprised us with limoncello: a typical Italian lemon liquor. The restaurant is located in a cobbled street right off the Cathedral square and close to the Barrio Santa Cruz (Jewish Neighbourhood). The central location, high quality of the food and affordable prices explain why the restaurant is very popular. To be guaranteed a table, make a reservation or go early. We went there 10 minutes before opening time and that strategy secured us a place at one of the few tables outside.

(2) Best salad: Luzanda (Facebook page, TripAdvisor)

We went there for lunch and had the salad with shrimps. It was clear that the chef mastered the art of preparing a salad: it was the most perfect shrimp salad I’d ever had, with lovely, fresh and crisp salad leaves, an amazingly flavoured vinaigrette/sauce (with some subtle garlic in it) and deliciously baked shrimps. The food was much more sophisticated than we were used to in Andalusia (we had noticed earlier on our trip how Spanish people are not always experts at making a salad!). We sat on the terrace that overlooked a little square: a cosy place for a lunch break.

(3) Best sangria & cheese cake: Gago 6 (Facebook page, TripAdvisor)

We went to this place in the afternoon in desperate need of a refreshing drink and something sweet. I can’t comment on the savoury food, but the cheesecake was home-made and marvellous and the sangria lovely and refreshing.

(4) Best ice cream: Good You (Website, TripAdvisor)

The frozen yoghurt we tried at Good You was absolutely delicious and I loved all the different toppings (including fresh fruit for the health-conscious) to choose from. My company was stubborn and instead opted for a regular ice cream cone a little further down the road but we agreed that the frozen yogurt was the far superior choice (both in terms of health and taste). A must try!
